Blog Post
Let's talk about something. Something a bit taboo. It came up during my meditation training. It's not something I would have ever talked about before. But why not pour my heart and soul out, as the creators we are?
Our one-way journey. What is that? What is the one thing which is absolute for all of us regardless of age, race, gender, species or any label?
Death.
A taboo topic in the west - one we treat with a copious amount of fragility. Don't get me wrong. It freaks the eff out of me. At least it did until recently. But to indeed find freedom, we have to learn to understand death in the same capacity we know birth. My teacher helped me overcome the barrier of death. When he told me we would do a death meditation, I was ready to walk out the door. The hell we want to do that for? During this meditation, you would use your mind to die essentially. It does sound mental, I know. But during the meditation, you observe death from a completely different perspective and take steps towards making peace with it.
Tibet is a fantastic example of how different death is understood. It is one of the very few countries left from a spiritually-based system - meditation is taught from a young age opposing a state-based approach.
So why did I want to highlight our one-way journey? So I could show that you are alive. Accepting death and understanding its nature liberates you. Imagine being freed from death. It eliminates your fear of everything, of life. The places you can push yourself to would most certainly make you look like a Jedi. If this is something you want to explore, I recommend a book called "The Tibetan book of the living & dying" by a fella named Sogyal Rinpoche - give me a shout if you need a copy, I can point you in the right direction. It is a fantastic insight into how (what they call Bardos) influence their model of viewing life and death. It’s quite a life-changing read.
We've touched on the fundamentals of meditation; we've explored the idea that reality is far more distorted than we think; and also that your life is a unique canvas for anything you want to experience before you must return, and return you must.
So, to bring this blog post to a conclusion, let me ask you this:
What would you do in this life if you had ZERO FEAR of anything?
